About our performance
#ANightToRemember is a project that has been designed to explore how site-specific, immersive theatre and social media can be combined to help us explore current social issues. In this performance we will be exploring sexual harassment and how it affects UK Night life while simultaneously maximising audience engagement/focus.
The reasoning behind our decision explore this particular social issue falls on the relevance it has within today’s society. Throughout our research it has become evident that sexual harassment and assault undeniably impacts UK nightlife and will continue to do so unless we actively try to raise awareness on this issue.
Our project engages with already established schemes such as the #AskforAngela scheme that operates in many Uk facilities and the #Me-too movement. Our main focus was raising awareness throughout our performance using these schemes already in place and to encourage people to speak out if they have ever experienced any type of sexual harassment.
One of our main aims throughout the project was to ensure that we did not make our audience feel uncomfortable. We have filtered our script in a way that is conscious of how sensitive our chosen topic is so that we do not cause any offence to any sexual harassment/assault victims that may be present within our audience.
We have used social media in order to contextualise our piece and engage with immersive theatre forms to enhance audience engagement. Our target audience was people aged between 18-25 due to the sensitivity of our piece and the content throughout.
We have used different theatre forms to explore our intentions and ideas, these being, abstract theatre, physical theatre, immersive theatre and verbatim theatre. We used verbatim by conducting research into the general public’s responses and perceptions of sexual harassment via a questionnaire.
