From early on within our creative process we discussed the idea of utilising social media as a performance tool within our piece. One of the challenges I faced as a dramaturg, was discovering a way in which we could use social media to engage our audience and heighten the immersive theatre experience we aimed to provide. I came up with the idea of using instagram stories to draw our audiences focus to particular questions that we wanted them to think about throughout certain points within our piece. One of my aims as a dramaturg is to explore emotional response and one way to do that would be by monitoring our audiences responses to the questions on these instagram polls. I wanted to ensure we were able to engage our target audience in a way that would heighten their experience and allow them to immerse themselves into our work. What better way to do so amongst a social media obsessed generation.

The following recordings show the instagram stories that appear within our script:

The performance begins with a notification received by all audience members, revealing an Instagram Story which has a poll on it asking our audience; “Have you ever had a night to remember?” the screen recording shows a selection of the “yes” button.

The actors freeze. The audience members receive a notification to vote on a poll that has been added to the Instagram story. The question reads. “Have you ever felt alone in a room full of people?”

The audience receive another instagram story notification. Their screens then show a story, this time asking the audience “Can he speak to Angela Please?” the recording shows the “yes” button being selected.
